A MONTH AGO I made a commitment to cut out candy and sweets from my diet for one month in an effort to get back into some good healthy habits. I don't know if it's because I am pregnant or what but it was so much harder than I thought it would be. I often do little cleanses like this and don't struggle with them but by the end of the month I had most definitely changed the "no refined sugar" bit to mean "no candy and chocolate". With a brunch date with my hubs and a trip to Montréal, it was almost impossible to not indulge in the occasional baked good.
I did notice that I often crave sugar first thing in the morning (read: chocolate for breakfast) and right before bed. So I started making smoothies in the morning and finishing the night off with apple slices or a clementine.
I feel like I gained a lot more self-control this month with eliminating candy and chocolate. I had way more energy and was able to stick to my goals of working out four times a week. It also reminded me that every time I go to put something in my mouth it is nourishing my baby and is something that I will have to work my butt off to lose post baby. This is definitely helpful perspective for me as we head into the biggest month of sweets! On that note, I'm off to bake Christmas goodies with my Grandma and Aunt today. Hope you're having a great week!
** I should add that the last two days of the month we had friends in town and I definitely broke early, indulging in some reese's peanut butter cups and reese's pieces. No shame here, they were delicious.
